Baking is one of those things. It makes the people around you feel loved and cared for, and it makes you feel calm and serene. It fills the house with warmth and homey smells, and it fills our hearts with joy.
When I feel overwhelmed, you can often find me in the kitchen baking. Or when one of the kids is coming home, I will bake their favorite cookies from scratch. And for years I made a very involved carrot cake for JP for his birthday. It was only a few years ago he got up the courage to tell me it was no longer his favorite, but he hadn't had the heart to break the news.
