The Gardens at Filoli

The gardens are what keep me coming back. They have a European structure, formal layouts, clipped hedges, distinct garden rooms but the plant palette reminds you exactly where you are. Succulents and cacti appear among the manicured beds, that distinctly California mix that shouldn't work but does.

2025 was a weird year.  Full of highs and lows.  The bitter was balanced by the sweet throughout the year.  But I struggled.

2025 was not my favorite year.  But reflecting on the year in detail always reminds me of the many small gifts, special moments and beautiful memories. 

efferson Hayman is one of those artists who lives his work. His pieces demonstrate his unique talent for finding beauty in simplicity.  Combined with traditional photographic techniques and vintage and handmade frames, each piece is one-of-a-kind.  

The summer post about French country entertaining in Montrozier was about ease and seasonal cooking outdoors. This is different, it's winter in the city. Still relaxed, still homemade, but more polished. The casualness comes from elegance, not from being rustic. But the idea stays the same: prepare ahead so you're present with guests. Use beautiful things you actually own. Make it feel special without making it stressful.

Our favorite holiday of the year deserves a beautiful place to be celebrated.  This year we packed up our collection of vintage stoneware, antique transferware, blown glass tumblers, and vintage silver and moved into The Buehler Estate.
