At Elsie Green, we take pride in being able to donate a portion of all sales to causes that tug at our heartstrings. Many of us are mothers, and/or have important women in our lives who act in a mothering role.

This Mother’s Day, we’re launching a two-week partnership with Every Mother Counts, the nonprofit founded to ensure the journey before, during and after pregnancy is safe, respectful, and equitable for everyone, everywhere.  During this time, we’ll donate a portion of all sales to support their life-saving work.

As part of our partnership with Every Mother Counts, we enjoyed a lovely conversation with sisters and mothers Christy and Erin. Alongside our conversation, the two sisters curated Mother’s Day edits inspired by their perspective on motherhood, style, and daily life.

Motherhood can mean so many things. Tell us how becoming a mother has shaped the way you see the world today.

Motherhood wasn't something I thought was given for me. I've always liked babies and little children and enjoyed being the "fun aunt" when my sisters made me one, but I had friends who struggled with their fertility, and I made some bad partner choices as a younger woman. I met my husband at the exact right time time my life to start imagining what it would be like to start a family together. Our first child was an unplanned pregnancy and that got me closer to becoming a mother in a way that would be meaningful for myself and another. I had a great pregnancy and had access to a team of amazing midwives and doulas, but experienced a postpartum complication that would change my life forever.

Has your understanding of motherhood changed since your children have grown?

It has only deepened in the way that life and experience can do. I've grown alongside my children and continue to in ways I could have never imagined.

What does a well-lived Mother's Day look like to you?

Mother's Day has naturally become more about Every Mother Counts than about me and my experience and singular experience or needs. I'd love to see or hear from my children without obligation and enjoy a day of rest.

How do you celebrate your own mother on Mother's Day?

I'll have my mom with me again this year, which will be so nice. Every year spent with her is special and appreciated.

What makes a gift feel truly thoughtful or lasting to you?

I never expect specific gifts, so any time someone has taken the time to listen to a new or old interest or passion and gifted me for any reason at all makes me feel grateful.

We always love to end with a recommendation. What is something you've been enjoying lately, whether a book, a place, or a ritual?

I've been inspired by my daughters commitment to and practice of the "Artist's Way." I may just get myself a copy of my own and follow suit.
