Meet Philippine. You might know her as founder of C'est Beau Chez Toi, a home styling studio based in San Francisco. Or you may know her as a creative director working with some brands you know and love.
We know her as our cool friend with great taste. We've worked with Philippine for years developing our sourcing trips in the French countryside and she always brings us something new. This summer, she is spending time in France with friends and family as she does each year.
Lucky for us, she's sharing some of her favorite places and experiences from her summer travels.

A House I Love: A Parisian Sensibility in Rural Aveyron
Near our family village of Montrozier, my friends Eric and Alexandre have created something completely different - a converted barn that feels like their Paris apartment transported to the countryside.
Walking into their home after spending time in our family houses is like stepping between two parallel worlds that suddenly intersect. Where our village homes feel casual and accumulated over generations - bric-à-brac mixed with inherited pieces, things that landed where they did through use rather than intention - Eric and Alexandre's barn displays the curated eye of people who have traveled extensively and collected with purpose.

A Different Style
I chose this house because it offers a completely different perspective from what I know here. Our family homes in Montrozier have that comfortable, unintentional quality - mismatched chairs around old wooden tables, objects that earned their place through daily life. Where we layer things organically, Eric and Alexandre create thoughtful vignettes. Where we use what we have, they've assembled a collection that speaks to decades of mindful acquisition.

Paris Meets Country
The barn showcases what happens when someone with serious design experience creates their own living space. Eric Gizard ran a Parisian interior design agency for years, working on projects like Air France's business class lounges and was named Designer of the Year in 2005. But this isn't a decorator's showpiece - it's a home designed for living and hosting. The furniture serves daily life while maintaining that polished quality that comes from working in the design world.
Many pieces are from Eric's own furniture collections, mixed with discoveries from years of travel. Yet everything feels approachable, meant to be used and enjoyed rather than simply admired.
The barn's ancient stone walls keep it grounded in place, while Eric and Alexandre's approach brings fresh energy to the countryside without losing respect for the setting.

Two Approaches
Both approaches thrive in this landscape. Our family's casual method feels rooted in the region's history. Eric and Alexandre's refined aesthetic introduces cosmopolitan elements to rural life while remaining fundamentally about creating a welcoming home.
Their barn demonstrates you don't have to choose between sophistication and country living. You can bring your established taste to an Aveyron setting and create something that works for both worlds.

Different Styles
Moving between these different approaches to country living shows why this region accommodates so many ways of being. It embraces our rambling family gatherings just as naturally as Eric and Alexandre's more intimate entertaining style.
Their barn represents one authentic way to approach rural living - bringing your aesthetic sensibility and adapting it to a new setting. The result is a space that feels both worldly and grounded, sophisticated yet genuinely livable.
It helps me envision what a home can become in this region, stepping beyond what twelve generations of family tradition have established as the only way to live here, while still honoring what makes this place special.
