Like so many others lately, I’ve been completely taken with Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette. Their relationship may have been complex - and yes, JFK Jr. could feel a bit like a manchild - but what truly stands out is Carolyn’s wardrobe.

Her style was the epitome of simplicity. Understated, intentional, and impeccably tailored, every look felt effortless - even though it was anything but accidental.

Carolyn was the queen of “less is more.” She relied on clean lines, classic colors, and precise proportions, with minimal jewelry and no excess. The result was a wardrobe that felt timeless, modern, and quietly confident.

Where she truly excelled, in my opinion, was outerwear.

Carolyn understood the power of a great coat. She balanced statement pieces with enduring staples - think structured trenches, classic peacoats, and perfectly cut wool coats. And she knew that in New York, a coat isn’t just an accessory - it’s a necessity.

As she famously said, "rich girls' coats - girls who get into cars, get out of them, go into restaurants, and go back into cars. You need a real coat for New York weather and life."

Amen.

If you’re looking to channel a bit of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy into your own wardrobe, it starts with outerwear. Below are a few favorite pieces that capture her timeless, effortless approach.
