When we spotted this cabinet in a flea market in Lyon, it was the unique configuration that drew our eye. But the book matched veneers of the cabinet doors and the carved keyholes that captured our hearts.
About book matched veneers
Book matched veneers are a type of veneer that is created by slicing a log in half and then opening it like a book. The resulting veneers are then placed side by side, so that the grain pattern of each veneer is a mirror image of its neighbor, creating a symmetrical pattern. This technique is commonly used in fine woodworking, especially in high-end furniture, cabinetry, and architectural millwork.
The book matching process produces a highly decorative and visually striking effect, with a uniform appearance and a consistent grain pattern. This can enhance the natural beauty of the wood, showcasing the unique character and figure of the grain. Book matched veneers can be made from a wide range of woods, including highly figured and exotic species.
Book matched veneers can be used to create a variety of decorative effects, such as a seamless pattern that appears to flow across multiple panels, or a striking symmetrical pattern that draws the eye. Because the veneers are made from real wood, they have a natural look and feel that cannot be replicated by synthetic materials.
