Our Favorite Champagnes & Sparkling Wines
Yes, New Year's Eve owns champagne, but we think it's nice in the summer as well. It's light, it's sparkly, and it's fun. Read on for our top five for a Friday afternoon at the shop or a Sunday afternoon at the beach.
Our clear favorite is Veuve Clicquot. It's light and dry with perfect balance and aromatic intensity, silky and elegant, a great selection for brunch or a drink before dinner (very French). And if you haven't read The Widow Clicquot, we highly recommend that you do. A close second is J. Lasalle Cuvée Angeline Brut Millesime.
For a sparkling white, we love Reeve Wines Kiser Vineyard Blanc de Noir. When a wine is described to have apple, pear and ginger notes, I must admit, my palate is not sharp enough to pick up the apple as opposed to the pear. But with this wine, I can appreciate the fresh fruit flavors combined with the light effervescence. It’s heavenly.
For a sparkling rosé, we prefer Scribe Winery Rosé Pétillant-Naturel. It's local, lively and rustic. We think its notes of raspberry, lavender and tarragon give it a very summery finish with a lot of freshness.
For the perfect mimosa, we like Domaine Chandon Étoile Brut mixed with fresh squeezed orange juice strained of pulp and garnished with a sprig of fresh mint.
For a fun wine on the go, we like West & Wilder Sparkling White in single serving cans.
