Photo Essay | Etchings

The art of etching is one of the oldest print making mediums, and has been pivotal throughout art history. The process of creating these works is laborious, and requires the artist to carefully scratch their design into a metal plate covered in wax, then submerge it in acid to create recessed lines. The plate is then pressed into ink and onto paper, producing a beautiful imprint on the page.
We have a soft spot for figurative etchings in particular. Their gentle but intricate lines and monochromatic colour scheme, have a special way of accurately capturing the beauty of the human frame.
We have rounded up a few of our favourite etchings, displayed both as individual pieces and as a part of a collection. Enjoy x
