I believe I am one of the last living catalog people.  I was working on catalog layouts and photoshoots when blueline meant writing on the proofs in blue pencil because the camera could not see the blue markings, when cut and paste was a literal term, and when a polaroid was taken of each image and hatched inside the photographer's armpit before anything was committed to film.

I appreciate digital photography and media for a variety of reasons but I love the craft of film and print.

Because of that, I have taken a little break from Pinterest and gone back to tearing pictures out of magazines or marking my favorite pages in books.

It's divine.  Now my desk is covered with tear sheets, my vision board is made of swatches, photos and magazine pages, and there is a stack of books on my bedside with cute little post-it flags reminding me which pages are my favorite.

While I do love Pinterest, Getty Images and such, there is a tactile element and excitement to tearing a page out of a magazine.  And it feels so good to hone my editor's eye by carefully choosing which pages are worthy to be placed in my growing stack of favorites.

I've read a lot about the social media cleanse and the digital detox.  I think I'll go the other way:  a print binge sounds delightful, no?
